SEPTEMBER IS NUTRITION & OBESITY AWARENESS MONTH
Nutrition and health are closely related. A healthy diet aims to:
- Promote health
- Prevent chronic disease
- Help people reach and maintain a healthy weight
Over the years food portions at restaurants have gotten larger. Some portions have grown to the point of becoming two serving sizes in one. This “super sizing” has caused an increase in waistlines and body weight.
How do today's portions compare to the portions available 20 years ago? Take the Portion Distortion Quiz developed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. This quiz will also inform you about the amount of physical activity required to burn off those extra calories you consume with the larger portions.
Do you need some additional tools on eating healthy to maintain your weight? Find your Healthy Eating Style on the MyPlate Checklist Calculator.
